The IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Control Enclosure has two node canisters with two 14-core processors per canister, includes integrated hardware-assisted compression acceleration and supports up to twenty-four 2.5 inch NVMe drives. The IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Control Enclosure supports IBM FlashCore Modules, industry-standard flash drives, NVMe storage-class memory drives and can be intermixed. The IBM FlashCore Modules are the fastest of these drives, have integrated IBM MicroLatency technology, advanced flash management, provide maximum reliability, include performance-neutral hardware compression built-in and offer AES-XTS 256 encryption and FIPS 140-2 complaint encryption for securing data at rest compliance requirements.

A single IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Storage Enclosure supports up to twenty 9848-AFF IBM FlashSystem SFF Expansion Enclosures that have twenty-four 2.5-inch SFF slots, providing a maximum of 504 drives per system. Alternatively, customers may use up to eight 9848-A9F IBM FlashSystem expansion enclosures that have ninety-two 3.5 Inch LFF slots for a maximum of 760 drives per system. Intermixing of 9848-AFF SFF and 9848-A9F LFF Expansion Enclosures is supported.

Expansion enclosures are designed to be dynamically added with virtually no downtime, helping to quickly and seamlessly respond to growing capacity demands. With four-way system clustering, the size of the 9150-AF8 IBM FlashSystem can be increased to a maximum of 3,040 drives. IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Control Enclosure systems can also be added into existing IBM Storwize V7000 clustered systems. Further scalability can be achieved with virtualization of external storage. When IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Control Enclosure virtualizes an external storage system, capacity in the external system inherits the functional richness and ease of use of FlashSystem 9100.

The IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Storage Enclosures are ideal for improving IBM i backup and recovery times, which can usually shrink a backup window down to under 2 minutes when used in conjunction with a FlashCopy or SnapShot software license. IBM FlashCopy and IBM SnapShot can make almost instant copies of an IBM i source partition without disrupting production and using minimal storage for various use cases: backups including Save21 full system saves, to feed a Data Warehouse for SQL or Analytics tool, to create secondary partition in a flash and keep target in synchronization with production, to create an anonymized partition for compliance requirements and to crate multiple copies of production data to allow quick recovery due to database corruption and security incidents caused by ransomware encryption attacks.

IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Storage Enclosure can achieve 3,800,000 IOPS 4K cache hit with ability to scale up to 10 million IOPS, 1,200,000 IOPS 4K read miss with hardware compression and 34 GB/s bandwidth (256K) with capability to scale up to 136 GB/s. The IBM 9150-AF8 FlashSystem 9848-AF8 NVMe Storage Enclosure supports up to 24 ports for 16 Gb or 32 Gb Fibre Channel (FC, FC-NVMe), 8 ports 10 GbE, 12 ports 25 GbE I WARP or RoCE.
