*Note:  Although the model 515 has performance ratings of 3800 and 7100 CPW, this model assumes unconstrained I/O. These values are very useful for applications that are not I/O intensive and require a lot of CPU horsepower. This measurement approach is consistent with the way CPW values are shown for all other models and is helpful in comparing with other workloads. However, the model 515 eight-disk arm maximum can greatly impact the actual production workload you may attain.

Compared to the 9405-520 Express Configurations or the 9406-520 Value Editions, the model 515 1-way has no specific limitation on 5250 CPW and offers maximum processor performance without the need for an accelerator feature. It also offers an upgrade path to a 2-way system for additional customer CPU growth. But note that the I/O maximums do not change between the 1-way and 2-way 515.

Like the 9405-520 Express Configurations and the 9406-520 Value Editions, the 9407 model 515 is a "new box" system. MES upgrades protecting the existing System i or AS/400 system's serial number are not offered. Upgrades from the model 515 to other models are not provided.

Compared to the 520 Enterprise Editions with 1000, 1200, 2400, or 2800 CPW, the model 515 offers significantly more unconstrained CPW for compute-intensive applications such as WebSphere, Java, or collaboration. However, depending on the number of users, memory, and I/O requirements, the model 520 or 525 may be a better fit.
