IBM qualifies and supports IBM EB46 10 GbE SFP+ SR Optical Transceiver to install into the IBM 10 GbE adapter on AIX and IBM i Power Systems. Customers may use their own optical cabling and SFP+ optical transceiver for the other end. The IBM EB46 10 GbE SFP+ SR Optical Transceiver supports distances up to 300 M using an OM3 cable or 82 m using an OM2 cable. Either of the IBM EB46 10 GbE Optical Transceiver SFP+ SR ports or both ports can be populated.

Customers may use their own Cat 5e STP cable. The IBM EB48 1 Gb RJ45 1000BASE-T transceiver supports distances up to 100 m using a Cat 5e STP cable. Either of the RJ45 adapter’s ports can be populated, as well as both ports, but mixing different speeds between the ports is not supported.

OM3 10 Gb/s Fiber Optic Cable, supports distances from 1.64 ft to 984.25 ft, is Multimode 50/125 micron fiber, and provides 2000 MHz x km bandwidth
OM2 10 Gb/s Fiber Optic Cable, supports distances from 1.64 ft to 269.02 ft, is Multimode 50/125 micron fiber, and provides 500 MHz x km bandwidth
OM1 10 Gb/s Fiber Optic Cable, supports distances from 1.64 ft to 108.26 ft, is Multimode 62.5/125 micron fiber, and provides 200 MHz x km bandwidth

NOTE: Due to the different core sizes, OM1 cables can only be connected to other OM1 cables. For best results, OM2 cables should not be connected to OM3 or OM4 cables. If an OM2 cable is connected to an OM3 or OM4 cable, the characteristics of the OM2 cable apply to the entire length of the cables.
