IBM S1014 P05 AS400 Entry Server

The IBM S1014 9105-41B EPG0 4-core Processor is the most popular Power10 model for AS400 workloads, which is not surprising considering the amount of CPW IBM added for the new entry P05 software tier system. The IBM i S1014 9105-41B EPG0 4-core processor has a whopping 106,300 CPW, and that is a lot of power for the SMB market to take advantage of. IBM more than doubled the CPW for the new Power10 S1014 4-core IBM i entry model, which is an astonishing increase in comparison to the previous fastest P05 Power9 processor system, the IBM S914 9009-41G EP50 4-Core that delivers 52,500 CPW. The IBM i Power entry server models have not seen this significant of a jump in CPW for the P05 software tier since 2010 when IBM released the Power7 Model 720 8202-E4B, increasing the entry P05 group CPW by over 450%. On average, IBM has only increased CPW about 40% per year for the P05 software tier, and one Power generation only increased 13%.

IBM i customers have a lot to be excited about with the new 9105-41B EPG0 3-3.9 Ghz Power10 Processor System. Being able to drop a software tier in the AS400 world, really makes a significant difference when factoring in AS400 software costs. Of which, most software vendors have traditionally treated P05 companies a bit more tenderly with pricing, knowing these customer are generally on the smaller side and much more price sensitive. Companies that are able take advantage of dropping from a P10 to P05 software tier, will immediately notice significant cost reductions in AS400 software maintenance as well as new software acquisitions.

What other differences are there in the new Power10 P05 entry models?
For IBM i AS400 customers, the increase in CPW for the P05 software tier is the biggest and most important change. There are many significant performance improvements due to the new Power10 technology, and some hardware specifications that have also changed as result as well. Let’s look at the Power10 versus Power9 comparison chart for the P05 4-core AS400 entry models:
