AS400 IBM 9406 LAN WAN 5706 2-Port 1Gbps Ethernet PCI-X IOA Adap
IBM 5706 Dual Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter PCI-X (10/100/1000 Base-TX) for IBM Power5 9409-M50. The IBM 5706 2-Port Gigabit (10/100/1000 Base-TX) Ethernet PCI-X Adapter is a Full Duplex, dual ported, Gigabit Ethernet adapter that can be configured to run at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps data rates on either port. The IBM 5706 adapter also supports jumbo frames when running at the 1000 Mbps speed in IBM Power7, Power6 and Power5 systems.
The IBM 5706 Dual Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter is supported on the following Power7, Power6 & Power5 systems: 8202-E4B, 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6B, 8205-E6C, 8205-E6D, 8233-E8B, 8236-E8C, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9119-FHB, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, 9179-MHD
The 5706 adapter interfaces to the system via a PCI or PCI-X bus and connects to a network using a 4-pair CAT-5 Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable for distances of up to 100m. AIX Network Install Manager (NIM) boot capability is supported with this adapter. A function called 'Large Send' or sometimes known as TCP Segmentation is also provided by this adapter. This function offloads the TCP segmentation operation from the AIX IP layer to the adapter for outgoing (transmit side) TCP segments. Another function known as "Checksum Offload" which offloads the TCP/UDP Checksum Operation or workload from the CPU to the adapter is also provided.
The IBM 2-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter (#5706) should be considered where maximum port density is required per I/O card slot. For a suggested maximum number of adapters taking performance into consideration, refer to the PCI Adapter Placement Reference SA38-0538. If card slots are not the limiting factor and maximum throughput is required, the single port IBM 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter (#5701) is the preferred solution.
Note: For optimum performance, the adapter should be placed in a 64 bit PCI-X card slot whenever possible. The 1000 Mbps speed is not supported in Half Duplex (HDX) mode.
Attributes provided: Two full-duplex 10/100/1000Base-TX UTP connections to Gigabit Ethernet LAN(s).
Attributes required: One 3 volt PCI or PCI-X card slot (either long or short)
For IBM Power5 9409-M50, the maximum 5706 features is 30.
OS level required: IBM OS400 V5R4 with V5R4M5 machine code or higher, AIX V 5.3, 6.1, 7.1 or higher, Enterprise Server 10 SP1 for POWER Systems, or later. Red Hat Enterprise Linux for POWER, version 4.5, or later. Red Hat Enterprise Linux for POWER, version 5.1, or later.
i5/OS does not support a #5706 function called 'Large Send' or sometimes known as TCP Segmentation. This function offloads the TCP segmentation operation from the IP layer to the adapter for outgoing (transmit side) TCP segments. i5/OS does not support a #5706 function known as "Checksum Offload," which offloads the TCP/UDP Checksum Operation or workload from the CPU to the adapter. The #5706 does not support SNA. The #5706 does not require a PCI IOP, even in an i5/OS partition. The 1000 Mbps speed is not supported in Half Duplex (HDX) mode on a 5706.
The 2-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter is a full duplex, dual ported, gigabit Ethernet adapter that can be configured to run each port at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps data rates. The adapter connects to the system using a PCI or PCI-X bus and connects to a network using standard unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable for distances of up to 100 meters. AIX Network Installation Management (NIM) boot capability is supported with this adapter. The adapter conforms to the IEEE 802.3ab 1000 Base-T standard. The adapter also supports jumbo frames when running at the 1000 Mbps speed.
