IBM 00E8687 ELEZ 59C9 300GB 15k RPM SAS SFF-2 4K Disk Drive Linux Power

The IBM ELEZ 300GB 15k RPM SAS SFF-2 4K Disk Drive Block for IBM Power Linux Systems has 00E8687 00E8681 00FX373 00E8683 part numbers and 59C9 CCIN, includes a Gen-2 carrier tray for SFF-2 SAS bays of a IBM EXP24S drawer. The IBM ESEY Disk Drive is formatted for 4096 byte sectors, but can be reformatted to 4224 byte sectors with 283 GB capacity. The IBM ELEZ feature is identical to the IBM ESEY 283GB 15k RPM SAS SFF-2 4K Disk Drive with 00E8681 part number, and has same 59C9 CCIN. The IBM 59C9 may have ESEY ESEZ or ELEZ feature code depending the IBM Power Server Model, OS type and SAS bay placement when configured for purchase.

IBM ELEZ 00E8687 59C9 Limitation: The ESEY cannot be used in Power8 System unit SFF Gen3-bay drawer because of physical difference of carrier/tray, and cannot be combined in the same array as a drive of the same capacity that is using different sector size.

All IBM Hardware purchased by end users is eligible for both existing and new IBM maintenance and support agreements. IBM hardware purchases also includes warranty and free technical support during normal business hours. Onsite and remote professional services requried outside normal business hours are provided for an additional fee.

Note: IBM 4k drives cannot be reformatted to 5xx drives (or vice versa). IBM is transitioning away from manufacturing SAS Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SSD) formatted with 512 and 528 byte sector (5xx), and instead will only be providing 4K byte sector drives. Although most AIX and Linux applications will not experience issues since data access to the SAS drives is via a file system, companies should confirm with their application provider to ensure compatibility with using SSD or HDD with 4K byte sectors. AIX and Linux applications that require direct access to the raw data on the SSD or HDD, may require 512 and 528 byte sector (5xx) sectors drives.
