FASTER RESPONSE TIMES
Dynamic LPAR Tuner continuously monitors your system’s resources and automatically moves resources (both batch and interactive CPW) from where they are needed least to where they are needed most, using a combination of an intelligent mathematical algorithm based on real time work load demands (not set intervals) and user defined rules and/or on a scheduled basis. One of the Dynamic LPAR Tuner’s distinguishing features is that it can move resources extremely fast (down to one optimization every ten seconds) which means it can move system resources many times per minute based on real time work load demands. Not much any of our competitors can say about that… Most lpar tuning tools provide tuning based on a fixed interval basis (e.g. 2-5 minutes); this philosophy does not take into account your real time work load demands.
Rules can be simply applied based on partition importance, stability, and speed and/or scheduled by time of day and calendar day. The Dynamic LPAR Tuner also allows for each partition to have a maximum and minimum amount of CPW that can be shared. The Dynamic LPAR tuner can create detailed performance reports for understanding workload demands or tracking tuning behavior. Using these rules and the Dynamic LPAR Tuner’s intelligent decision making process, global performance optimization is achieved across every partition.
LPAR Tuner does not reallocate memory among partitions based on workloads, but rather it reallocates memory resources between partitions on a scheduled basis. This is a conscious design decision, not a product failure. The reason for this is that continuously moving memory from one partition to other is extremely resource consuming, and can even be counterproductive. Just ask IBM…
The Dynamic LPAR Tuner also comes with a simple to use and understand graphical reporting system that can generate general graphical summaries or very detailed reports with a click of a button to help you understand trends in CPU, interactive CPU, PU and IC resource allocation. The LPAR Tuner keeps a historical record of all changes made, and generates performance data to track resource allocation and workloads inside each partition.
VISUAL Control for Jobs detects the jobs that are affecting performance, analyzes them and changes their run attributes in order to improve global responses, using default parameters or predefined values. By applying the appropriate attributes to each job, iSeries performance can be accelerated by 30% or more.
