The 7204 IBM RS/6000* External Disk Drives provide additional function and enhancement capabilities to the RS/6000 POWERstation*/POWERserver* 200, 300, 500 Series and to the POWERserver* Models 990, 980, and 970. The 7204 family comes in both single port and dual port SCSI connector configurations.
The IBM 7204 18.2 GB External Disk Drive Model 419 is a low-cost alternative to other externally attached disk storage devices available for the RS/6000 family of workstations and servers. This model uses redesigned and improved disk assembly and IBM technology for higher reliability and improved performance.
Increased data capacity allows you to add new applications and expand the number and size of data files readily accessible to you. The formatted capacity of 18.2 and the average typical seek time of 7.0 milliseconds read and 8.0 milliseconds write combined with a maximum media data transfer rate of 32.0 MB per second make this 7204 model a very competitive storage solution for RS/6000 users.
The 7204 Model 419 uses a 68-pin, LVD/SE (low voltage differential or single-ended), interface and attaches to the host RS/6000 via SCSI cable to a variety of SCSI-2 SE (single-ended), Fast/Wide adapters. The number of SCSI devices that can be attached to each SCSI controller will vary based on the type of SCSI controller, when running AIX Version 4.1.4 or 4.2.0 or later, or 4.3.0 or later, allowing multiple 7204 devices to be installed per system. More information on cabling is located in "Hardware Requirements".
