*** SPEC SHEET IN PDF FORMAT AT BOTTOM OF PAGE ***

The IBM 9406 Model 820 offers processor and interactive features that yield performance ranges from 370 CPW to 3700 CPW for processor, and from 35 CPW to 2000 CPW for interactive. The Model 820 is also offered as a Dedicated Server for Domino, with unique performance ranges. Depending upon the processor feature selected, main storage size is from 256MB up to 32768MB. Disk storage capacity on the Model 820 is from 8.58GB up to 4159.1GB.

The 8XX servers are a significant step in the evolution of the IBM iSeries product line. The first server to use copper and silicon-on- insulator (SOI) technology, 8XX servers dramatically increase processor performance. Price/performance is equal to -- or better than -- the 7XX servers.

Top model processor and interactive performance are increased three and a half times. The top of the line Model 840, boasts a powerful 24-way processor.

Main storage is more than doubled.

DASD capacity is over four times the largest 7XX server today.

The 8XX hardware completes the transition to PCI I/O architecture with the introduction of Hot-Plug PCI in all the 8XX servers. This I/O structure enables:

- I/O throughput up to ten times faster than the previous implementation
- High-performance PCI bus with Hot Plug PCI adapters
- High-Speed Links
- Customer Setup of the Model 820, and selected features on all models
- Hot Plug PCI, for adding and replacing hardware without taking the server down
- Hot-Pluggable DASD for concurrent maintenance of individual DASD devices

I/O enhancements:

- A 700Mhz Integrated Netfinity Server
- 1Gbps high-speed Ethernet LAN adapter
- 100Mbps high-speed Token-Ring adapter
- External CD-ROM device
- V.90 integrated modem in the base system
- The 8XX servers take advantage of the new function of OS/400 V4R5, and help protect your application investment with compatibility for your programs running under previous RISC versions of OS/400.

The iSeries 8XX servers offer you the solutions to move from core business to e-business. Extending your core business applications for e-business (e.g., connecting your business to other businesses, customers, suppliers, and employees) requires performance, scalability, reliability, and security.

These 8XX servers require the functions of OS/400 V4R5, and help protect your application investment with compatibility for your programs running under previous RISC versions of OS/400.

New Processor Technology:

The iSeries is leading the industry by delivering the first server with the "silicon-on-insulator" (SOI) technology.

SOI represents a fundamental advance in the way chips are built. IBM's unique SOI process alters the design of transistors, essentially "turbo charging" them so they run faster and use less power. For example, a microprocessor designed to operate at a given speed can instead be built using SOI to achieve higher speeds. At the same time, if performance levels are held constant, SOI chips can require as little as one-third the power of today's microchips.

I/O Implementation:

The SPD bus, used in previous AS/400 models, has been replaced by High-Speed Link connectivity and enhanced PCI capability on the 8XX servers, providing dramatic performance improvements and configuration flexibility for I/O adapters and devices. This enables:

- I/O throughput up to ten times faster than the previous implementation
- Allows running multiple 3590s and disk in the same tower at rated speed
- Enables new high-speed technology, such as 1Gbps Ethernet
- Provides significantly improved save time for large objects

Hot-Plug PCI, for adding/removing/replacing hardware without taking the server down on all 8XX models. "Hot plugging" is made possible by power control to individual card slots so that PCI IOPs and/or IOAs can be added/removed/replaced while the system remains active. In most cases, IOA configurations can be changed while other IOAs on the same IOP remain operational.

Flexible placement rules for IOPs and IOAs allow you to customize your system for performance, capacity, availability, or logical partitions

Industry-standard SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) supports concurrent maintenance on individual DASD and removable media devices

The iSeries is an ideal choice for those businesses that:

* Are interested in high performance, scalable servers which are capable of managing multiple workloads on one physical footprint

* Have the requirement to run applications which span operating environments (OS/400, Domino, UNIX, NT and Windows 2000, Java, and in the future, Linux), yet do not want to proliferate diverse servers and do not want to staff diverse skills

* Value the integration of the database, HTTP server, Web application server, security, Java, and more, recognizing that much of the systems integration work and testing has been done before the system leaves the IBM plant

* Are predisposed to implement turnkey solutions with some customization rather than implement "built from the ground up" customized solutions requiring significant systems integration skills

* Want to minimize management and operational complexity

* Place a high priority on "speed to implement"

* Require 99.9+% single system availability

* Require a highly secure server

* Are looking to extend core business applications to the Web

* Minimum Functional 8XX Server
