You can upgrade to AS/400e servers 720, 730, and 740 from most installed AS/400e RISC models, including systems, servers, and custom mixed-mode servers. Most of the features used on the installed models can also be used on the 7XX servers. Some new features add even more value to the new models.

Installed AS/400e 4XX/5XX/6XX/SXX (except SB1) systems and servers can be upgraded to the new AS/400e 7XX servers. You can also choose to upgrade once you are within the new product line of 7XX servers. You can upgrade a model, increase processor performance, increase interactive performance -- or all three -- as your needs change.
